On 14 June 2021, the Regional Development Agency Bačka organised the second online local workshop within the project “New approaches for seismic improvement and renovation of Adriatic and Ionian historic urban centres” - ADRISEISMIC, which is implemented in cooperation with seven other partner institutions from the Adrion area (Adriatic - Ionian).

The workshop was held with the support of a team of experts led by a consulting and engineering company specialised in structural design, supervision and project management ASMEC CONSULTANTS DOO from Belgrade, which has many years of experience related to earthquake engineering, which is the professional field of the project.

The main objectives of this workshop were to inform the professional public in the Republic of Serbia about the first results of the project as well as to validate certain activities developed within the three technical work packages over the past six months, which are listed below:

  • Work package technical 1 - Technical regulations regarding seismic retrofitting of the buildings in Serbia and the Region: similarities and differences , presented by Dr. Borko Bulajić, Professor at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad;

  • Work package technical 2 - Assessment of seismic vulnerability and techniques for seismic retrofitting of the buildings in Serbia and the Region: comparison of the practices in the region , presented by Dr. Svetlana Brzev, President of the Serbian Association for Earthquake Engineering (SUZI-SAEE) & Professor at the University of British Columbia, Canada; and

  • Work package technical 3 - Status of the educational programmes regarding seismic retrofitting of the buildings in Serbia and the Region: similarities and differences , presented by Dr. Marko Marinković, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade

In addition to the mentioned topics that were elaborated through work packages, those present at the workshop had the opportunity to hear, from M.Sc. Olga Đurić Perić, director of ASMEC CONSULTANTS DOO, a little more about the status of the ADRISEISMIC project as well as about the upcoming activities that will be implemented in the next six months period.

The relevance of the topics covered at the workshop attracted the attention of the professional public in the Republic of Serbia, so in addition to the representatives of higher education institutions (Universities of Novi Sad and Belgrade), representatives of the public, civil and private sectors were also present.

ADRISEISMIC project is supported within the Interreg V-B Adriatic-Ionian Cooperation Programme 2014-2020 – ADRION. The overall project objective is to exchange and systematize knowledge and practices in tackling the reduction of the seismic vulnerability of the built environment in Project Partner countries, to harmonize planning and management of emergencies after seismic events and the post-earthquake phase, in order to drastically improve the approaches for dealing with and to secure the reduction of seismic vulnerability among ADRION regions. The main focus areas are the historical urban centres and historical squares and their surrounding buildings, conceived as symbol of local identity and socio-economic cores for the ADRION settlements. The total value of the project is 1.126.640,00 Euros (ERDF and IPA II contribution amounts to 957.644,00 Euros or 85%). Period of implementation: 1 March 2020 – 31 August 2022.
